Founder’s Story - Meet Julee & Soccer Pants
Soccer Pants Senior Paws has been a labor of love. A very special 10 year old dog came into my life in 2017 and he changed everything. His name was Socs, affectionately known as Soccer Pants. I was lucky enough to have him for just over a year, until lymphoma decided to call him back home.
My time with Soccer Pants was full of love and many lessons. I still say he had me, more than I ever had him, and I learned that dogs are really just healers in fur bodies.
As Clarissa Pinkola Estés says, “Dogs are the magicians of the Universe,” and I believe her!
After Soccer Pants passed away, I got the idea to start a program called the Soccer Pants Senior Fund, as a way to honor my boy. Our veterinarian, Dr. Angel Martinez, helped execute the idea at VCA Firehouse in Denver. I will always be grateful for her. It certainly is no mistake that her name is Angel.
I initially funded this program myself and we were able to help 10 senior animals in 2018-2019 with veterinary care. In 2019, I also assisted a local rescue with senior animal advocacy and adoption promotion.
New sparks of inspiration continued to flourish into what is now Soccer Pants Senior Paws, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, that became official in 2020.
And so this heart work continues…because after all, love is a four-legged word.
This is for you, Soccer Pants…
